Second Draft Win

Played Dragon's Maze draft again today. This time I placed first. Well, technically not because I split the winnings. Still, feels good to win again. Went 3-0 for the first time.

My draft MVPs

Now I'm thinking if I should keep playing this since I've experienced winning. The rush is fun though and it's a good escape. Let's see how well I keep up the winning streak.

Every so often, throw yourself a fun bone.

International Picnic

Had a picnic yesterday with the school international students. Pretty good day in central park. Didn't know people sunbathed in park. Now, I know.

PHP nerding

On a lighter note, I did something pretty awesome for my Web and E-Business class. Our group was stumped on our project because of our PHP code not working. We don't know PHP, we just code some code and tried to modify. And yeah it didn't work and even the professor was trying to find out what was wrong.

So a few days after I tried learning it from YouTube videos and other websites. And boom, I got a simple database to work. Felt awesome so I emailed the professor I did it. I got this as a reply...

Kind of anti-climactic because once you know how to do the programming, you want to run the hell away from it. Still, it's a time to shine so gots to make it cool.

A little persistence goes a long way. It might be to some weird place, but still a long way ahead.

Business Law B

Got a B in my Business Law midterm. I actually felt I was getting an A but I got a lot wrong on that test. There's always one class that gives you a hard time. Actually, most of my classes are challenging right now. Group projects are starting to get hard again.

I guess now's a good time to push and get some improvement happening.

If everything was easy, then it wouldn't be fun.

Pinoy BBQ

Joined some friends over to this BBQ hosted by Pinoys in New York last Saturday. Pretty fun bunch and it felt good to see other Filipinos living it out in the states. Didn't know most of the people but it's funny how it's a small world where you know someone who knows someone you know. Plus, there was a lot of good food and beer.

First Draft Win

After a couple of rounds of horrible losses (including to I think a 10 year old), I finally got myself my first win on a Magic the Gathering draft tournament. Got 2nd place out of our pod of 8 people. I drafted a Simic deck with 5 walls and lots of evasion creatures. Felt pretty good stumping all those aggro decks. Oooh geeky goodness.

top 4

won 5 packs and a promo card!

Got the first place guy down to 1 on an epic battle that I eventually lost. Still, a good game fought out.

Try until you win, the whole process is fun.

Ice Drop Discovery

Before our 8pm classes, some friends and I had some dinner and contemplated dessert. We finally decided to go to a grocery to split those packs of three. And then we found the coolest thing.

We know Magnolia ice cream from back home in the Philippines and definitely going to try the other flavors!

Always have dessert. It can reward you.

Best Ice Cream Ever

Yes. I found it in Ample Hills Creamery in Brooklyn. Apparently, it's a big thing over there with a crazy line for the ice cream. The famous flavor they have is called Salted Crack Caramel, because it's supposed to be very addicting. And yes it was.

We went there on the Game of Thrones finale night, so the shop was extra decorated.

Funny note

You can do a mix!

Creamy awesomeness

It's the type of ice cream you're excited to go home to. Just like a loved one haha. I am now sad that I finished my pint yesterday.

Draft luck

A few days ago I played Magic the Gathering draft. The cards I drafted were fun but not that strong. I actually lost badly. One funny thing that happened was that I agreed to throw a round just so my opponent could win 4th place and 3 packs. I'd get one of those packs, so it was a good deal since I was losing anyway.

So I throw the game and get my pack, and boom

I get the most expensive card in the set ($50). Felt bad for the guy who won over me but I guess I was lucky. Felt kinda dirty keeping it and I'm planning to trade it for a lot of cards.

Luck is good, but no substitute for actual work.

Ashanti day

Something awesome happened at internship. Awesome singer Ashanti came over and gave a small performance at the office. Couldn't believe that I actually saw her in person. Back in high school, she had a lot of songs come out and she's still good now. She sang her new single too. Awesome, awesome.

Game of Thrones in Brooklyn

A week late, but still worth posting. It was another Game of Thrones night hosted this time in Brooklyn by Mel for her birthday. Had some bbq with Mel and Jerome where we finished a meat platter, mac&cheese 3 sides and messy fries. With beer to push it down. Amazing that we finished it all.

And yeah, the red wedding was crazzzy!

Food and fun. Food is fun.

Anj's Birthday

A week late on this one. It was Anj's birthday last week and it sucks that I can't be with her to celebrate. One of the big woes of being in a long distance relationship. Still, I guess we have to make the most of what we have right now. We could still have fun.

We did have a makeshift celebration which I thought was cool.
